Are there any uni sties out there that are using GA or other web analytics packages ? What are your challenges and how are you addressing them ? Keen to make contact particularly with UK based sites.

hi, Shaun, what challenges are you having?

Not challenges as such but analytics is new to the Uni - not me. I have a background in web analytics and ecommerce so know what I am doing but would like to make contact with other UK Uni people who are getting to grips with analytics seriously. It's all about lead generation, very little ecommerce at the moment but there are numerous conversion oportunities, i.e. prospectus orders and open day bookings.

Hi: I run www.bcu.ac.uk and we use GA.
The biggest challenge is that they only over you 4 goals - and so you can only measure the success of the site in converting visitors into 4 types of action takers. That and the fact that good ol' Google now has access to all of our stats... - but then considering the usual pace that Uni IT departments get things changed we really had no choice but to use them...

hi, James,
a little cheat for getting extra goals:
You can add as many profiles as you want for an individual domain, meaning you can have an unlimited number of goals set up.
Hope that helps!

Beat me to it Daniel, I have done it this way and it can therefore be applied to different academic schools or other segments. Very easy to set up and manage.

Ha! - thanks for the cheat - I will gleefully use it!
The other issue I have is convincing people that the web should be our prime marketing medium - and that we shouldn;t be dissipating our efforts on multiple subsidiary faculty sites.... - but that's perhaps an issue for another thread!
I'm off to Google Analytics to set up some more conversion goal pages!
