I've looked at Pure360 in the past, and was wondering if there are any (near) equivalent services that are free, or nearly free?
Initially there will be about 200 emails going out per batch/month, though this will increase to up to 500.
Any recommendations?
Thanks!

With only a few hundred emails, you could potentially manage this yourself through a standard email program like outlook.
Aside from that, your best bet may be to go for a provider who charges on a per-email basis. Mailchimp & Email Brain both offer this, (though they are both US based):

From the looks of that, your first two months with mailchimp would only cost a few pounds. The features you get for that money are ridiculously good (http://www.mailchimp.com/learnmore.phtml). Whether you use them or not, they have a useful blog at http://mailchimp.blogs.com.
I hope that's some help,

Hi Rosie,
If you've got a web site that supports ASP.NET, you might also consider Absolute Newsletter from Xigla (www.xigla.com). It's around £150 with no ongoing costs and also manages bounces, tracking and allow recipients to unsubscribe themselves.

The cheapest solution if you have your own hosting is to buy a basic email list management program. If you're onlinux hosting then phplist and Interspire Sendstudio are both good options that I've used in the past.
For hosted solutions, never use a free option, it will be abused by spammers and you'll find your list gets blocked along with all of theirs.
There area lot of very low cost US based solutions that don't have the full functionality of Emailvision, Pure360 and the like, but are still extremely good value for the basics of a regular newsletter.
I set up a campaign yesterday for a US client who was already using Intellicontact and I found it very easy to use, and well priced, you should have a look at them. There are a few similar offerings about but I really liked this one for ease of use.
